Special Needs & Inclusive Care

Every child is welcome here.

Tic Tac Tooth treats children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, sensory processing differences, and other disabilities and additional needs. What follows is what we can offer, said plainly, so you can judge whether it fits your child.

How we adapt appointments

01
Sensory-friendly appointments
Lower lighting, reduced noise where possible, and advance notice of anything your child will hear, see, or feel before it happens.
02
Longer, unhurried appointment slots
Time is scheduled so no part of the visit feels rushed, for you or for your child.
03
Desensitisation visits
Short, no-treatment visits to meet the team, sit in the chair, and get used to the room before any actual dental work is attempted.
04
Communication support
We adapt how we explain things, visual supports, simple language, or working with a communication method your child already uses. Tell us what works and we'll use it.
05
Parent present throughout
You stay with your child for the whole appointment, in every room, at every step.
06
Wheelchair access
07
Experience across a range of needs
08
Sedation pathways when needed
For children who cannot tolerate treatment awake, we offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide) sedation on site, with further options where clinically appropriate. See Comfort & Sedation for detail.

When a child cannot tolerate treatment awake

We offer laughing gas (nitrous oxide) sedation on site. Further sedation options are considered case by case.

Any sedation is discussed and agreed with you in advance. It is never decided on the day without your consent.

How we keep children comfortable

Prepare your child before the visit

A downloadable social story, one sentence and one picture per page, in the order your child will experience the visit. Many parents of autistic children use a story like this in the days before an appointment. Almost no dental clinic provides one.

The Tic Tac Tooth entrance, a backlit sign glowing warm gold beside a wood-slat door
1. I am going to Tic Tac Tooth for a dental visit.
The glass door, with a painted mural of a tooth character and a rainbow
2. I walk through the door.
The reception desk, with a teal front and the Tic Tac Tooth logo on the wall behind it
3. I say hello at the reception desk.
A height chart on the wall with a giraffe, a monkey, a parrot, a tiger and an elephant drawn along it
4. I can stand by the height chart if I want to.
A climbing wall, a rope net and wooden bars in the waiting area
5. I can play in the waiting area until it is my turn.
An arched doorway leading from the consultation room into the jungle room
6. I choose which room I go into.
The dental chair in the jungle room
7. I sit in the chair. My parent stays with me the whole time.
The tray of tools on the arm of the dental chair
8. The dentist shows me each tool before using it.
A round picture of jungle animals on the ceiling above the chair, lit up
9. I can look at the picture on the ceiling if I want a break.
The wall by the desk that says You did a great job, with a rainbow and two happy teeth
10. When we are finished, I get a sticker and a certificate.
The Tic Tac Tooth sign by the door
11. Then I go home. I did a good job.
